The Department of Earth Sciences is located on the Downing Site in the centre of Cambridge, see Site Map. A disabled parking bay is available in the front of the South Wing Entrance for disabled visitors to the Sedgwick Museum and the Department; the car park is open air and all on one level. Please contact Martin Walker if you require the use of the disabled parking bay. There is a public car park close by, the Grand Arcade Car Park.
Travel To Cambridge
From Heathrow Airport
The Cambridge bus departs from the Central Bus Station, Bus Stop 9, usually on the hour. The journey takes between 2hr 25min to 2hr 50min. Alternatively, by rail take the Piccadilly underground line to Kings Cross Station London, where trains leave for Cambridge every half hour at 15 minutes past the hour and 45 minutes past the hour. The journey from Kings Cross takes just under an hour. Buses into Cambridge arrive at Parkside, on Parkers Piece, five minutes walk from the Department. The train station is a 10-15 minute walk to the main Department building.
From Stansted Airport
There is a direct train service to Cambridge which takes about 30 mins. Alternatively, National Express operates a bus service direct to Cambridge (50min), stopping at Parkside near the main Department building.
From Gatwick Airport
National Express buses travel from Cambridge approximately every two hours. Check the National Express website for exact times. Journey duration is typically between 3hrs 30min to 4hrs. Alternatively, take the train to Victoria Station London (30 minutes), take the underground to Kings Cross station, where trains leave for Cambridge at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour and the journey takes about 1 hour.
From Luton Airport
From Luton Airport, the best means of travelling to Cambridge is via a National Express bus. Travel time is 1hr 35min, arriving at Parkside near the main Department building.
