AI for the study of Environmental Risks (AI4ER)

UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training

AI and machine learning are playing an increasingly important role in environmental hazards and disaster risk reduction, with these devastating events occurring much more frequently due to the effects of climate change. The development of machine learning in this field is now integral to forecasting extreme events such as floods, cyclones, earthquakes and landslides, in addition to tracking events as they occur and supporting the decision making processes on the ground.

Affiliated Depts and Partners that work in this field include the Dept of Engineering, Dept of Architecture, Dept of Earth Sciences, Dept of Computer Sciences and Technology, Mott Macdonald, BuroHappold Engineering, Max Fordham, RMS (Risk Management Solutions), WTW (Willis Towers Watson), Aviva, south pole
