Applications for the 2023 intake are now closed.

Interview dates 

• Gates (rest of the world),Trust, UKRI and self -funded: 30 January 2023 and 6 and 7 February 2023
• 4C studentships: 16 February 2023

The final deadline for applications is 5 January 2023. We strongly advise applicants to submit their applications as early as possible.

How to apply

Before applying, please ensure you have read the information provided on all the pages for our programme on the course directory and on this site.

We must receive the following documents, via the applicant portal, by the deadlines given

• A completed application form
• Academic Transcript(s)
• Two Academic References
• CV
• Statement of Interest - please tell us how you see the application of AI transforming the assessment of environmental risk in the next 5-years. 
  • If you are also interested in applying for a Cambridge Centre for Carbon Credits (4C) studentship please indicate your intention to apply for a 4C studentship with a short paragraph explaining why you would like to work with 4C.
• Reason for applying:
  1. Please state why you are interested in carrying out research in environmental science (max. 600 words);
  2. Please give a summary of your machine learning and/or programming experience (max. 600 words). These two questions need to be submitted in one document (pdf).

Please note that the course to which you are applying is piloting an additional step in the application process for postgraduate study this year. We are including this step to improve contextualised understanding of your application. The additional step will be presented to you as part of your main application process on the Cambridge Graduate Applicant Portal. All applications will be considered for UKRI funding.

Unfortunately your application will be rejected if we do not receive all of the documents by the required deadline. Please ensure you check on the status of your application after submission, and contact your referees if references are still pending after 10 days.

Recruitment process

Our recruitment panel will shortlist following strict criteria issued by the University to departments. Criteria includes academic qualifications, references and potential for the programme (knowledge of the field, experience and fit, aptitude etc).

The University of Cambridge attracts applications from a number of excellent candidates, which unfortunately means competition is high.

Due to the high number of applications received, we will not be able to provide feedback at the shortlisting stage.

Feedback after interview may be given at the panel's discretion.
