Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI)
An online Moodle course provides an introduction to Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI). By the end of the course, CDT students will be able to:
- Understand the principles of Responsible Research & Innovation (RRI)
- Identify the need for RRI with respect to new research and technology
- Reflect on the role and responsibilities of researchers within society
- Summarise the separate elements of Anticipate, Reflect, Engage and Act
- Apply the AREA framework for RRI to assess potential implications of a research project
- Understand how to appraise new research / technologies from an RRI perspective
The RRI training is aimed at CDT students in their first year.
Research Ethics
The University expects its employees, or any other person conducting research on University premises, to follow the University’s normal expectations of good practice in research. This includes taking all reasonable steps to ensure the ethical conduct of research involving human participants and/or personal data.

- MATLAB for Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences landing page has a lot of domain specific information for students and is also where we can promote research done in this area.
- MATLAB academy - self paced training courses. These range from short 2hr onramps to more detailed 2-3 day courses. One place we have seen these trainings used very effectively is as pre-requisite to ensure students all start with a baseline knowledge.

AI for Good is presented as a year round digital platform where AI innovators and problem owners learn, build and connect to help identify practical AI solutions to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Cambridge Disaster Research Network- a group which connects those interested in disasters and natural hazards from departments across the University of Cambridge and researchers and practitioners outside of Cambridge. You can join the mailing list or see recordings of past seminars.
Institute for Ethics in AI. We hold a regular schedule of events which confront the big questions in AI, bringing together experts in different fields. Events are held online and in-person and each one is open to the public. You can watch previous events, and learn about upcoming events, by subscribing to our YouTube page.
Cambridge Centre for Climate Science. The Cambridge Centre for Climate Science (CCfCS) has been established to promote research and other activities in Climate Science going on at several Departments of the University of Cambridge. Find out about upcoming events here.
Quaternary Discussion Group (QDG) A series of 50 minute lectures, followed by discussion, on the broad topic of environmental evolution, climate, ecological and human change during the Quaternary (the last ~2.6 million years). The lectures are aimed at a broad audience (including geoscientists, glaciologists, environmental scientists, atmospheric chemists, biologists, anthropologists and archaeologists).
